Mental health struggles have become a prevalent issue in today’s world, with millions of people struggling with various conditions such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and many more. These conditions can be overwhelming and challenging to manage, affecting all aspects of one’s life. For instance, individuals may experience difficulties in their relationships, work, and personal life.

The stigma…

The stigma surrounding mental health has made it difficult for people to seek help, resulting in many people suffering in silence. However, seeking help can be an essential step towards recovery.

The right Self-help books can be an excellent resource for individuals struggling with mental health conditions.

In this blog, I will explore some of the greatest mental health struggles and how my book aims to help and answer them in an effort to help individuals overcome them.

Having struggled with mental health for many years and having overcome 99.9% of the battles I faced, and presently being a psychologist in training, I believe what I have to say upon the matter may hold some credibility.

Depression is one of the most common mental health struggles, affecting millions of people globally. It is characterized by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest in activities, and changes in sleep and appetite patterns. Depression can be caused by various factors, such as genetics, environmental factors, and life events.

Getting to the root: To overcome depression one must first understand the reasons for depression. Is it chemical or is it a feeling of depression. These are two very different things, and must be treated as such.

What is the difference?

A feeling of depression: This can come from lack of exercise, not being where you want to be in life, poor diet, money worries, comparing oneself to others, buying into the social media comparison hype, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, difficult living situations etc.

Plan of action: First of all, conclude exactly what it is that you are depressed about. When you know the reason for depression you can begin to alter your environment and take actionable steps to change your situation.

Chemical depression: This is usually where the serotonin levels within your body are too high or two low. Many will experience great moments of euphoria, followed by a sudden and harsh crash.

Plan of action: Evaluate how you are spending your day. Many people with chemical depression simply want to run to the doctor and have a course of pills prescribed. (PLEASE NOTE… I am in no way shape or form saying that taking pills for medical reasons is wrong. However, the best practice for your own well being is to explore other courses of action first.)

Are you getting out in nature? How are you spending your time? What are you doing with your life? What can you begin to do to change this?

If you need help with this, my coaching practice is available and I am accepting new clients.

Self-help books, such as the battles we all face, can be a valuable resource for individuals struggling with depression. They can provide individuals with coping mechanisms and strategies to manage their symptoms. These books may include exercises such as journaling, mindfulness, and other cognitive-behavioral techniques. By practicing these techniques, individuals can gain a better understanding of their thoughts and feelings and learn how to manage them more effectively.

One practice of John’s self-help book like that of his mentoring practice has always been focused upon getting to the root of the problem for when we find the root of the problem, then we are able to treat the patient John says the battles we all face comes in a form of paperback audio book, eBook and hardback and each one has been created specifically with a few perks depending on the different designs. It covers 40 of the most difficult situations that people go through on a daily basis. And John’s artwork goes a long way to ensuring that students of his work remember the lessons he teaches. The battles we all face is a brand-new fresh experience.

The book teaches individuals how to identify negative thought patterns and replace them with positive ones. It also provides tools to manage negative feelings and offers practical solutions to help individuals achieve a better mood.

Anxiety is another common mental health struggle. It is often characterized by feelings of fear, worry, and apprehension. Anxiety is often mistaken as being caused by various factors, such as genetics, environmental factors, and life events. what it actually is, is a fear of the past/fear of the future. Fear of what has been, or a fear of what could be. We only ever suffer in our memory or imagination. Unmanned, or without the right help, it can be challenging beyond measure to manage and can significantly impact an individual’s daily life.

Anxiety often stems from a key moment or incident in ones life. Where the brain simply could not cope with the amount of information which it was being asked to process. What often happens is after the first anxiety episode, the brain will remember the name of the place, location and surroundings and when called upon, will do anything and everything it can to avoid a situation like that again.

In John’s book, he talks specifically about anxiety, where and how it stems, forms and how it can be overcome. SUFFERING WITH ANXIETY DAILY IS NOT NORMAL and should NOT be normalised.

When we normalise something, we give it the power and accept it as part of us. Anxiety is no more normal than accepting a broken leg as the norm is. You can do something about it and John teaches you how.

Trauma is a significant mental health struggle. It often occurs when someone has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event. Trauma can cause feelings of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Individuals who experience trauma may struggle with flashbacks, nightmares, and other symptoms that can significantly impact their daily life.

John had severe PSTD trauma as a result of youth work and incorrect medical diagnosis. He overcame this by becoming aware of the types of noises which he exposed himself to and the types of television programmes that he watched.

I found that music, where the notes and energy were harsh, loud or aggressive would be reflective in my behaviour, and the same was true also with television.

We literally become what we think and surround ourselves with.

As a man thinketh, so he shall become.

John’s Self-help books can be a valuable resource for individuals struggling with trauma. It provides individuals with understanding of the issues, overcoming mechanisms and strategies to manage their symptoms. These books may include techniques such as mindfulness, relaxation, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. By practicing these techniques, individuals can learn to manage their trauma symptoms more effectively and reduce their overall levels of distress.

As mentioned there are over 40 chapters in John’s book ranging from:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Letting go
  • Starting over
  • How to move on
  • We are all one
  • Perspective
  • And many more of the most common battles which many around the world face.
